The focal point of the trip, Lago General Carrera is the second-largest
lake in South America and stretches east into Argentina. With its craggy,
brush-covered shores, turquoise bays, and balmy climate, Chile's biggest
lake is often compared to the Mediterranean because it enjoys a surprisingly
warm and sunny microclimate.

A half-day journey to Exploradores Valley includes a charted boat
around and inside a peninsula of marble caves known as the Capilla
de Marmol - the " Marble Chapel " - an extraordinary rock
formation with a fantastic labyrinth of caves carved naturally by thousands
of years of wave erosion from Lago General Carrera.

From the sky, the water and on trails
we explore magnificent geological landscapes, fjord-like channels and
hike to precipitous ridges for the most sensational views of calving
glaciers, waterfalls, floating icebergs and the highest peaks in the
Andes Mountains.

Scenic Aerial Tours (optional)
For those who wish to enjoy a unique experience,
we especially recommend this hour-long flight over the Northern Ice Field
of Patagonia with views of the highest peaks in Patagoinia, Mount San
Valentin and Mount San Lorenzo (optional extra and weather permitting).

Terra Luna Lodge provides the perfect base for exploring
some of northern Patagonia's wildest and most exhilarating country.
The lodge, which opened in 2000, is built on the lake's shore. Four
family-size apartments, a dining room, bar and upstairs sitting rooms
all have spectacular views and excellent service in a relaxed atmosphere.
The sight of icebergs carving off from towering glaciers into crystal-clear
lakes is unbeatable and, in this blissfully remote region, you will
have it all to yourself.

Moderate to strenuous hikes from sea level to 6,000 feet averaging
3 to 5 hours on dirt trails, rocky ledges and snowfields. We traverse
old growth hardwood forests and climb dramatic ridges for stunning
views of snow-capped peaks, massive rock cliffs, towering spires and
glacial pools. Hiking excursions range from ascending part of the route
to the summit of San Valentin and trekking to hidden lakes within a
network of glaciers descending from Patagonia's Northern Ice Cap.

We camp in remote, forested areas surrounded by small beaches.
Campsites are set up in advance and gear is transported either by mule
or plane. Meals are fully catered and prepared by the campsite crew.

The extraordinary aspect of this part
of the world is its remoteness. We take you to any number of lakes
to hike along sweeping glaciers and mountain valleys while soaring
over the Northern Ice Field and viewing the most breathtaking landscape
on earth.

Water-based excursions provide access to narrow
inlets, immense glaciers, floating icebergs, striking rock formations
and beautiful surroundings in total isolation. The sight of icebergs
carving off from towering glaciers into crystal clear lakes is unbeatable
and, in this blissfully remote region, you will have it all to yourself.

Condor, puma and hamul (endangered elk).
