The
primal force of nature is no where more apparent than in Iceland.
Traveling from north to south approximately 8 to 12 miles per day,
we encounter beauty of staggering proportions. We backpack a
haunting expanse of black lava desert ringed with black lava
mountains and large explosive craters with steep, rust-colored
rims filled to the brim with lakes of aquamarine water.

Our custom-mapped trek spans the volcanic region
and the uninhabited highlands of south central Iceland.
We'll take in some of the most breathtaking footpaths
in the south - like the Fjallabak Wilderness near the
Myrdalsjokull icecap. This is in the region with the
largest active volcanic system and geothermal area
in Iceland, where repeated ice-covered eruptions have
created the rugged and colorful rhyolite mountains
that surround the area.
By hiking in late summer we will catch the earliest
appearances of the aurora borealis. With more than
100 fjords, 100 volcanoes, 10,000 waterfalls, glaciers
that cover 11% of the country and geothermal activity
that makes the land itself vibrate; our Inner Iceland
Trek puts you in the thick of the dramatic extremes
of Iceland's otherworldly countryside.
